Public Broadcasting Service is hooking up with WGBH-TV Boston and WNET-TV New York to form PBS Distribution Services, a nonprofit firm that will make educational programming available to cable and other competitors.
Rick Grefe, v.p. of Washington, D.C.-based Assn. of Public TV Stations, says by forming an outlet designed to nail down distrib rights, pubcasters hope to collect added coin to fund future projects. Agreement will allow other pubcasting outlets to join the new venture.
