The locally-based Monitor Television Inc., gearing to launch the Monitor Channel this year, has exclusive U.S. rights to “Silk Road,” a 42-part docuseries focusing on the trade route opened up by Marco Polo, which linked China with Europe.

The series was produced as a joint venture between Japan’s NHK and China Central TV Network. The proposed Christian Science Monitor cable service projects a spring 1991 start.
