Cost-Cutting Diet Means Fewer Players

Ted Jordan, general manager of Group W’s KDKA-AM, has made some cost-cutting moves by axing Joe Gaering from the station’s latenight talkshow, Bob Kopler from the latenight news and Howard Elson from the weekend sports talkshow. Put on the list for part-time work were Liz Randolph and Marilyn Turner. Also, local news, from 8 to 11 p.m., has been dropped largely because the station carries Pirates baseball and Penguin hockey 240 nights a year.

Stacey Smith now simulcasts his 11 p.m. news on KDKA-TV and KDKA-AM.
