Cable Sports Reports Use KDKA Studio

Group W’s KDKA-TV and TCI Cable have entered into an agreement that will have KBL, TCI’s sports network, use KDKA’s studios and office space. The space had housed the dropped “Evening Magazine” and “Pittsburgh 2Day.”

KBL will start with a 7 p.m. show called “Sports Beat,” and plans to have another show, “News Line,” to air 6:30 p.m., joining the sked in the near future. “Sports Beat” will have its own host, writers, producers and directors but will use KDKA technicians. WPXI-TV news inserts will be dropped, allowing KDKA to provide the news.

KBL general manager William Craig said it’s the first time a broadcast affiliate has joined in such a deal with a regional sports network.
