A Record Punch

Time Warner Sports topper Seth Abraham said last week that TVKO’s pay-per-view telecast of the George Foreman-Evander Holyfield heavyweight boxing match April 19 was bought by a record 1.4 million-plus of the 17.5 million homes capable of receiving it – an 8.5% buy rate.

TVKO’s domestic gross for the event should be $55 million to $60 million after the accounting is done, with the combined world-wide take at close to $75 million.

The fight, however, was a big loser in closed-circuit-tv arenas around the country, particularly in Southern California.
