Mark L. Haffner

Mark L. Haffner, 40, singing coach for the San Francisco Opera, died Jan. 6 in S.F. after a long illness.

An accomplished keyboardist, Haffner joined the opera in 1979 as an apprentice coach and accompanist. Two years later, he joined the opera’s coaching staff, working with such performers as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Christoph von Dohnanyi.

Survived by his mother.
