Evelyn Barnes Peirce

Evelyn Barnes Peirce, 83, casting director of the J. Walter Thompson Co. for more than 20 years, died Jan. 24 in Bloomfield, Conn., of a heart attack.

In recent years she taught acting at the New School in New York.

After graduating from Wellesley College in 1931, Peirce started in advertising in 1943 with the Compton Advertising Agency. She produced the popular tv series “The Goldbergs” and eventually became head of Compton’s daytime programming department.

In 1955, she joined J. Walter Thompson as co-casting director in the tv program department. At that time, the agency produced “Kraft Television Theatre.” The following year, Peirce was promoted to casting director in the commercial department. She was active in American Women in Radio & Television.
