‘Playhouse’ Pacts With German WMG

Public tv’s “American Playhouse,” beginning its 10th year, has found a co-production and distribution partner.

WMG, a subsidiary of German Hopf Holding & Co., an Essen conglomerate, will co-finance and distribute at least 24 hours over the next 18 months.

In return, WMG and various partners in Europe will get tv rights for Continental Europe, excluding English-language territories and the Soviet Union. WMG also will get a first look at theatrical film properties that “American Playhouse” develops.
