Last year’s boxoffice was a major disappointment for production and distribution companies in Finland. Total audience for the year amounted to 6.1 million, 15% less than 1989.

Film companies were active last year, completing 13 pics, three more than the year before. But all of the major productions were b.o. failures, and many heavily marketed Hollywood movies were disappointing as well, except for “Pretty Woman” and “Die Hard 2.”

Finnish productions earned about 11% of the year’s b.o. total, mostly because of the success of “Winter War” by Pekka Parikka.
