‘Cop’ Helps Oz Clean Up At Boxoffice

Surpassing all expectations, and receiving a mighty boost from a smash debut from “Kindergarten Cop,” the Australian b.o. jumped to record levels for the week ended Jan. 9.

About $9.38 million was collected, up $1.74 million on the previous week. That represents a massive 1.8 million admissions based on the average admission price of $A6.60 ($5.10).

“Kindergarten Cop” lifted the week with a $A2.47 million ($1.9 million) bow, fourth-largest opening ever, per UIP. Three other films eclipsed the $A1 million mark: “Home Alone” ($A2.08 million), “Three Men And A Little Lady” ($A1.36 million) and “Ghost” ($A1.09 million in its 11th week).
