The average Norwegian family spends three times as much money on homevideo as on visits to the movie theater. This means an average 15 videos and six visits to the movies per year, according to an inquiry by Oslo newspaper Verdens Gang.
The video business remains stable with rentals worth 1.2 billion krone. More than half of Norwegian households now have their own VCRs.
Verdens Gang conducted its own inquiry into the cultural statistics of 1990, complaining that government statisticians are too slow to acknowledge the mighty presence of homevideo on the entertainment and cultural scene.
