A California federal court has ordered Virgin Records to turn over copies of the original studio recordings of “I Need You” and “Opposites Attract” to singer Yvette Marine, who has filed suit claiming she sang lead vocals with Paula Abdul on those songs. Virgin has obtained a court order keeping the tapes from the public.

Marine also has asked Abdul and Virgin execs to hold a joint press conference with her to play the tapes, which she says prove that she sang on the songs – a charge Abdul and Virgin have denied. Virgin declined comment on the challenge.

Meanwhile, an Illinois judge has refused to dismiss a class action suit accusing Abdul, Virgin and distributor WEA of deceptive trade practices. That trial is not expected to begin until after the first of the year.
