Editor, VARIETY:

I believe your brief review of “The Movie List Book” (VARIETY, Nov. 26) took a wrong turn. Mary Willems Armstrong and I did not write the book exclusively for “prospective cinema Ph.D.’s.” As stated in the book’s intro, our goal was to serve both scholar and film buff. Perhaps Gerz. has a Ph.D. and found the “librarians” category insignificant. Librarians have (not surprisingly) shown a special interest in that entry.
