Fest Spotlights South Africa

With both playwrights in attendance, the Cleveland Play House opened its five-week multicultural festival “Woza! A Festival Of South African Arts And Issues,” centering on the American premiere of “Say Zebra” and “By The Pool.”

Both are reviewed in this issue. The plays are being presented in the Bolton Theater Feb. 5 through March 10.

“By The Pool,” written by Scottish playwright Stewart Conn, head of BBC Scotland’s radio department, is directed by Josephine R. Abady, Play House artistic director.

“Say Zebra,” by Sherry Coman, is directed by Michael Breault, a former resident director of the Play House’s Brooks Co.

The fest includes a series of talks, art displays, lectures and film showings in other community centers and cinemas.
