Video specialty stores on average each sold 105 tapes during the holiday season, according to a survey of 154 retailers conducted by the American Video Assn., a trade association and buying group.

From Nov. 15 to Dec. 31,53% of the tapes sold in those stores were new and 47% were previously viewed.

The AVA estimated that the approximately 25,000 video specialty stores in the U.S. accounted for sales of over 2.5 million cassettes during the holidays. By most estimates, that would be well under half the vidcassettes sold during the period.
