The Los Angeles office of Unifrance Film Intl., worldwide promotion arm of French cinema, is being shuttered effective March 31, nine years after it was opened.

Budgetary problems and reorganization were given as official reasons, but sources say internal politics were a factor as well. Unifrance will retain its New York office, directed by Catherine Verret. Benoit Caron, audiovisual attache of the French consulate in Los Angeles, will provide part-time liaison work with the French film industry after the local office goes out of business.
