Sovereign Drops Suit Vs. Hemdale

Sovereign Pictures has dropped a suit against Hemdale Film Corp. after receiving a $2 million payment. Sovereign filed the suit against Hemdale in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this month, claiming Hemdale had breached a distribution agreement concerning the film “Impromptu.”

Sovereign claimed Hemdale had been delinquent on the $2 million payment for North American and Canadian distribution rights since Sept. 15. Jeffrey Breitbart, director of Hemdale’s corporate and legal affairs, said the delay in payment was caused by a “technical mix-up.” Sovereign attorney Steve Chrystie of Chrystie & Berle said a dismissal without prejudice had been filed on the claim.
