Media Awards To ‘Avalon,’ ‘China Cry,’ ‘Civil War’

Tri-Star’s” Avalon” Trinity Broadcasting’s debut theatrical production, “China Cry,” and PBS’ “The Civil War” took top honors at Excellence in Media’s 14th annual Angel Awards ceremonies Feb. 21.

Awards, which recognize works “with outstanding moral, spiritual or social impact,” cited “China Cry,” a true story of escape from communist China in t he 1950s, as best film of 1990. “Avalon,” a look at America’s immigrant experience through one multigenerational family, was given a special Gold Angel.

Columbia’s “Adventures Of Milo And Otis” was voted best family film.

In addition to “The Civil War,” which was named best miniseries, tv honors also went to the Lifetime cable web’s “Sudie And Simpson” (best cable film) and PBS’ “Amazing Grace With Bill Moyers” (most inspirational show).

Country music singer Randy Travis was given a distinguished achievement award, the organization’s top honor for an individual.
