‘Lambs’ Gorged With $2.1 Mil; ‘Enemy’ $1.5 Mil

Thanks to the long weekend and the booming $2.1 million opening of Orion’s “The Silence Of The Lambs,” movie attendance was up sharply last week. Although it was bumped to second place, Joseph Ruben’s “Sleeping With The Enemy” held up quite well with $1.5 million.

Another newcomer, Universal’s “King Ralph,” had a zingy start of about $804,418. Not far behind was the relentless “Home Alone,” improving thanks to the holiday.

The Oscars nominations gave “Dances With Wolves” a huge boost to about $455,000. It led “The Neverending Story II,” which held up in its second round. In a mediocre debut, “Nothing But Trouble” from Warner Bros, took in $374,944. “Perfectly Normal” from Four Seasons came up with an embarrassing $6,946.

Two new exclusives performed better than that. Prestige’s “Iron & Silk” managed $18,312 at the Angelika, while Castle Hill’s “Alligator Eyes” registered $10,118 at the Quad. In their second week, “Rosencrantx And Guildenstern” and “Ay, Carmela!” both declined somewhat, to $26,046 and about $20,000 respectively.
