‘Home’ Runs Away From the Crowd; ‘Cop’ Strong; ‘Wolves’ Lively

“Home Alone” got a second wind to earn $12.5 million, up 4% and ahead of all comers at the boxoffice. Film’s strong showing the past two weeks indicates the Persian Gulf War and its media coverage have not made a dent in movie attendance.

With $196.2 million earned in just 10 weeks, “Alone” is poised to pass up “Ghost” within two weeks as the top-grossing film released in 1990, an achievement recorded the Macaulay Culkin film in half the time “Ghost” took to reach its $211 million-plus feat.

Next plateau for the Fox hit is to challenge “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Ghostbusters” to become the most successful comedy ever.

The top 10 pictures earned $68,195,320, down only 2% from last week’s $69,272,073.

Col’s “Awakenings” earned a fine $9.1 million in its second wide round, averaging an impressive $6,933 at 1,311 sites.

U’s “Kindergarten Cop” paralleled “Home Alone” in providing light relief from the headlines, dipping only 2% to $7.9 million in its fifth period.

Orion Pictures’ “Dances With Wolves” ceded a mere 3% to pass the $88 million level in 11 weeks.

Par’s gung ho “Flight Of The Intruder” eluded enemy radar for an okay $6.7 million debut at 1,489 airstrips. Buena Vista’s adventure “White Fang” bowed with an adequate $6.5 million at 1,108 igloos.

MGM’s “Not Without My Daughter” collected a disappointing $3.8 million at 1,141 mosques. Orion’s “Eve Of Destruction” shot itself in the foot with $2.5 million at initial 985 sites.

U’s “Once Around” preemed with a powerhouse $24,174 average at 16 houses. New Line’s “Cadence” registered an okay $210,000 debut at 31 sites.

Col’s “Men Of Respect” opened weakly with a $3,167 average at 33 birdbaths.

BV’s “Green Card” enjoyed an excellent $13,581 average at 341 theaters in its platform week.
