The Lon Chaney classic “The Phantom Of The Opera” will get a reissue in a new version featuring a five-minute intro by Christopher Lee and an original musical score by Rick Wakeman. Dick Randall and Steve Minasian teamed to produce the revamped version, which includes restored color footage for the film’s ballroom scene.
Reissue will be distributed in the U.S. by Greycat Films for Minasian (who owns domestic rights). It’s scheduled to bow at Coolidge Corner cinema in Brookline, Mass., in March. Rupert Julian directed the 1925 Universal release based on the Gaston Leroux novel, which has been frequently remade and has led to stage versions including Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical.
