Robert Altman is in negotiations with Hemdale Film Corp. on a feature project entitled “L.A. Short Cuts,” which Altman will direct and co-script with Frank Barhydt.

Hemdale would finance and likely hold worldwide distribution rights to the $12 million film, adapted from several of Raymond Carver’s short stories. Altman is looking to begin filming this spring in the L.A. area with a cast that features 27 lead roles.
