Of the 291 independently produced films scheduled to be screened at the American Film Market (Feb. 28 to March 8), 197 will be making “their international market debut,” according to AFM executive director Tim Kittleson.

That total exceeds the 175 new pics shown last year, but the overall number to be unspooled is down from 1989’s 307. A total of 505 screenings has been scheduled over the nine-day event.

The American Film Marketing Assn.’s breakdown of the types of films to be screened by member companies shows that dramas dominate, accounting for almost 24%.
