Chuck Norris goes to Canada in this dreary, unconvincing action vehicle. The Hitman is short on action and adopts a film noir visual style that masks its limited production values. Feature is a comedown from their big-budget Delta Force 2.
Prolog has Norris and Michael Parks as cops on a stakeout, with Parks shooting Norris and leaving him for dead. Three years later Norris is in Seattle undercover as unsuspecting Italo gangster Al Waxman’s No. 2 in command. Working for agent Ken Pogue, Norris’ assignment is to get the two rival mobs, Waxman’s and Marcel Sabourin’s French heavies in Vancouver, to unite so that both can be nabbed. Fly in the ointment is a group of Iranian thugs led by Frank Ferrucci.
Norris is okay as a pretend heavy, but a very poor script violates many rules of the genre. Best thing about Hitman is some good stuntwork.
