She’ll Be Wearing Pink Pajamas is about a group of British women from mixed backgrounds who gather together, awkwardly at first, but eventually confide in each other and reveal their innermost secrets and problems.
After a slightly off-key opening, in which the characters are introed, we’re into the setting of an outdoor survival course for women only, a week-long exercise designed to push the participants physically as far as they can go. The intimate discussions that follow take place against outdoor backgrounds, filmed in England’s beautiful Lake District, as the women ford streams, climb mountains, canoe, swing on ropes, or go on a marathon hike.
There’s one man around (Anthony Higgins), but he’s almost an intrusion. The women are a lively and well-differentiated lot, and there is a bevy of fine actresses playing them. Standout is Julie Walters as a bouncy type who proves surprisingly weak in the crunch.
