Michael Dudikoff is the titular hero, a sullen GI named Joe who arrives at US Army base Fort Sonora with a chip on his shoulder. He quickly alienates everyone except the pretty daughter of the commanding officer, Patricia Hickock (Judie Aronson), by singlehandedly saving her from the deadly ninjas working for corrupt arms dealer Ortega (Don Stewart).
Director Sam Firstenberg stages the numerous action scenes well, but engenders little interest in the non-story [by Avi Kleinberger and Gideon Amir].
Dudikoff comes off awkwardly as a new James Dean clone who’s been pumping iron. Most winning performance is turned in by Steve James, Joe’s sole pal on the base.
