Three girls come to Moscow from the country to find new lives and challenges. Men outweigh politics and their work in factories. One ends up with an illegitimate child, another does not marry, and one has a good simple marriage.

It starts in 1958 and then goes to 1978. A bit sprawling, overlong and indulgent, film still has an easygoing attitude towards the more forthright love scenes, albeit covered up. It indicates there are class distinctions due to standing in the work hierarchy and brings in an almost overheroic, unassuming worker who wins over the unwed mother, now the director of a big factory.

Film is engagingly played and directed with ease. Perhaps a bit reminiscent of American romantic comedies of the 1930s, but without their more dynamic pacing, bite and tongue-in-cheek innocence.
