Review: ‘Skyjacked’

Charlton Heston and Yvette Mimieux star as pilot and stewardess respectively of a jetliner seized by James Brolin. John Guillermin's fastpaced direction makes the most of a large group of top performers.

Stanley R. Greenberg’s adaptation of David Harper’s novel, Hijacked , establishes early and sustains throughout the diverse personal interactions of literally dozens of characters. The dramatic device of trapping a motley group is a venerable but effective blue-print, herein made all the more compelling by a contemporary social phenomenon.

Heston is a most effective leader as the plane captain suddenly faced with a lipstick-scrawled demand for a course change to Anchorage, Alaska, where Claude Akins as a ground controller heightens the suspense of a delicate landing maneuver.
