Plot centers on a fraud in the art world via forging ‘masterpieces’. Based on [the short story Venus Rising] by George Bradshaw, the script twirls around Audrey Hepburn, daughter of a distinguished French family whose father, Hugh Griffith, is a faker of genius. She has given up trying to reform him, continuing only to hope he won’t get into too much trouble. Peter O’Toole is a private detective who specializes in solving crimes in the world of art, but whom femme thinks is a burglar after she discovers him in the family home in the middle of the night apparently trying to make off with a canvas.

Griffith is a particular standout as the elegant Parisian oddball with a compulsion to forge the greatest impressionistic painters.
