Appeal lies in romance between Katharine Hepburn and Robert Taylor and uncertainty as to how it will work out. Taylor, war-made industrialist, marries Hepburn, daughter of a scientist, after a whirlwind courtship. After marriage, the bride begins to discover odd incidents in her husband’s past, including his brother’s mysterious disappearance and the fear that dogs and other animals have for the man.

Hepburn sells her role with usual finesse and talent. Robert Mitchum, as the missing brother, has only three scenes but makes them count for importance.
